The Wool & The Process
What are your accessories made from?
Every Pom Shanty piece is made from merino lambswool — high quality premium yarn spun and dyed in the UK. Merino lambswool is prized for its softness, warmth and natural breathability, keeping you cosy while letting moisture evaporate away from the body.
How are they made?
Each piece is designed and hand-crafted by Sandra, working on a hand-powered vintage knitting machine from her home studio in London. Every accessory is then pinned out, steamed (blocked), rested, and gently laundered to bring out the characteristic softness of the wool.
Will my item look exactly like the photo?
As each piece is handmade in small batches, you may see very slight natural variation between individual items — this is part of what makes a handcrafted piece unique.
Caring for Your Pieces
How do I clean my scarf/triangle scarf/beanie?
Knitwear generally needs far less washing than other garments. Our recommended approach: set your iron to its lowest steam setting, place the item on your board, and cover it with a protective layer (a cotton pillowcase works well); steam gently through the layer to freshen the piece and release wrinkles; if not wearing it straight away, roll it gently for storage. For a deeper clean, gently hand-wash in tepid water with a specialist wool detergent. Lay flat between two towels and press (never wring or squeeze) out excess water, then reshape and dry flat. Do not tumble dry. Dry cleaning is also suitable.

What size are your scarves/triangle scarves/beanies?
Approximate dimensions by product type: Scarf 184 × 20 cm · Triangle Scarf Double-Layer 108 × 39 cm · Triangle Scarf Single-Layer 120 x 40 cm · Neck Tie 210 cm · Beanie one size, shaped to follow the natural contour of the head, with a double-layered ribbed brim.
Shipping
Where do you ship to?
At present, Pom Shanty Knitwear ships within the UK only.
How long will my order take to arrive?
Orders are dispatched within 1–3 business days. Delivery is via Royal Mail Tracked 48, which typically takes 2–3 days from dispatch. If an item isn't currently in stock, it will be specially made for you, which adds a lead time of 5–7 days — we'll email you to let you know, and you're welcome to a full refund if that timing doesn't suit.
How much is shipping?
Free on orders of £50 and above. £2.75 on orders below £50.
Returns & Exchanges
What's your return policy?
We offer a 30-day return window from the day you receive your item. To qualify, the item must be unworn, unused, with tags attached, and in its original packaging.
How do I start a return?
Email pomshanty@gmail.com to request a return before sending anything back — items returned without a prior request won't be accepted. Return postage is at your own expense, and we recommend using a tracked service, as we can't be responsible for items that don't reach us.
What can't be returned?
Custom or personalised orders, sale items, and gift cards are not eligible for return.
How long do refunds take?
Once your return is received and approved, refunds are issued to your original payment method within 10 business days.
Do you offer exchanges?
Rather than a direct exchange, we ask you to return your item for a refund and place a new order for the item you'd like instead — this is the fastest way to secure what you want.
My item arrived damaged/wrong — what do I do?
Please inspect your order as soon as it arrives and contact us straight away at pomshanty@gmail.com if anything is defective, damaged, or incorrect, so we can put it right.

Who makes Pom Shanty pieces?
Sandra, the designer and maker behind Pom Shanty Knitwear, designs and crafts every piece from her home studio in London. Originally from Tikitiki, a small settlement in New Zealand, Sandra's designs draw on geometric motifs and line play inspired by both her heritage — including the tukutuku panels found in Māori meeting houses — and her adopted home, including landmarks like Battersea Power Station.
